We are pleased to announce the dates for our summer courses for 2024. They will happen on:
3 June – 7 June; 17 June – 21 June
1 July – 5 July; 29 July – 2 August
These are 5 day intensive training courses that are designed for people of all experience levels, including those who have never flown before.
Learning a mix of ground as well as flight skills, course participants who join with little to no past flying experience will have learned most or even all the following:
- Carry out cockpit pre-flight checks
- Conduct initial take-off, and be starting to fly the aerotow from above 1,000 feet
- Maintain a good look out for other aircraft at all times, and locate the airfield on every flight
- Learn the function of all three flight controls, separately and together in turns
- Learn to turn in thermals and fly in level flight
- Fly the glider completely from tow release to at least the final turn and approach to land including the use of the airbrakes
Ground handling, log-keeping, signalling and manoeuvring gliders on the ground is a further essential component of the course.
The cost for the 5 day course (non-members) is €650 or €495 for students. This includes a non-refundable €150 booking deposit. Included in the course fee are:
- Three months’ membership of The Leinster Gliding Centre
- €425 worth of flight credits (€350 for students) which may used through the course
- Unused flight credits can be carried forward into the three month membership if unused during the course
- Ground briefings and short lectures on essential subjects
Gliding is a weather dependent sport so any used time and flight credits can be carried forward into the three month membership should poor weather prove a factor during the course week.
